How to Join a Fraternity or Sorority

Interested in joining a fraternity or sorority? There will be many events in the beginning of each semester to meet our Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Sorority & Fraternity Council, and Panhellenic Council. While all three councils have their own recruitment process, the office of Fraternity & Sorority Life requires students to have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 to join any fraternity or sorority chapter. We encourage everyone to visit our council and chapter social media pages for events, updates and announcements!

The Interfraternity Council (IFC) hosts recruitment the fourth week of each fall and spring semester. Leading up to recruitment, all IFC chapters will be tabling in the plaza and promoting events around campus. The first day of recruitment will be an information night where everyone is invited to learn about our IFC chapters and encouraged to visit them all throughout the week. From there, students can choose the events they would like to attend. Recruitment concludes with Bid Day where invitations or bids are distributed from each chapter.

The Multicultural Sorority & Fraternity Council (MSFC) hosts recruitment or intake throughout the fall and spring semester. MSFC fraternities and sororities represented on campus will present information about their individual chapters for prospective members by tabling at the beginning of the semester and the MSFC council will host the “MSFC Grand Tour” where all the chapters in the MSFC council come together for one big informational night. Not all MSFC chapters take in new members at the same time and each chapter has a unique process tailored to their individual organizations, however, each chapter is highlighted at the beginning of the school year.

The Panhellenic Council hosts a partially-structured formal recruitment process during the fourth week of the fall semester. This year Partially-Structured Formal Recruitment begins with a week of chapter-hosted Open House Events which potential new members (PNMs) can attend at their convenience. These open house events give PNM’s a head start getting to know the chapters before Recruitment Weekend begins. Formal Recruitment begins at the end of the open house week; it is a two-day process in which students explore all chapters, with the exception of our associate chapter, Kappa Delta Zeta. Our Registration Application opens in July and closes the day before recruitment. Panhellenic kicks off formal recruitment with “All About Recruitment” the Friday of formal recruitment weekend. Formal recruitment begins on Saturday and goes through Sunday, ending with Bid Day on Sunday evening. Our local Panhellenic affiliated sorority does participate in recruitment; however, they do not participate in the formal Panhellenic recruitment weekend. They too will hold tabling and recruitment events after formal Panhellenic recruitment has concluded.
